Information about completing community service
Each middle school student will be required to complete 15 hours of community service by the time they complete their 8th grade year. During the 7th grade year students are expected to complete at least 5 hours. Students will be given opportunities during school hours, but are also encouraged to get involved in the community to volunteer. Students in between their 7th and 8th grade years can complete hours over the summer for credit, while rising 7th grade students may not. Service hours begin to count for 7th grade students on August 28th, 2018.
If you need help finding things to do to complete the hours, go to volunteerfairfax.org and search for opportunities in the area. During the school year teachers will also post different opportunities on their classroom page.
Once a student has completed community service hours, they are to complete the following Verification Form. Each student will need to make sure to get contact information from the adult(s) that they worked with to get their hours. Students will complete a reflection, in class, at the end of their 8th grade year.
