A Message from the Prinicpal

Greetings, Irving Families!

Welcome to our weekly, News You Choose (NYC) Newsletter, sent each week on Friday evenings. In our newsletter, we include an upcoming calendar of events, pictures, information regarding After School Activities, Library Services, and upcoming parent/guardian seminars, as well as division information and much more. Our newsletter is our one-stop-shop for all that is happening at Irving!

In the calendar above are important dates we want to make sure you have saved. These dates will help you and your child prepare for the start of the school year.

  • We look forward to welcoming all of our families on Thursday, August 15, for our Open House from 2:00 pm -5:00 pm.
    • A new feature this year is the opportunity for only our 7th grade families to come in from 2:00 pm -3:00 pm. This will provide more time to drop off forms, pick up the class schedule, and navigate the building with less people.
    • From 3:00 - 5:00 pm, all families are welcome and will be able to drop off forms, pick up their child’s schedule, and walk the halls to find classes and meet teachers.
    • More details will be sent on Monday of next week.
  • On Friday, August 16, we welcome our all 7th graders and 8th grade students who are new to FCPS, to join us for our New Student Orientation from 7:30-9:50 am. This student only event, provides time for them to go through their schedule and meet their classmates and teachers.
  • Monday, August 19 - First Day of School! We start bright and early at 7:30 am! Please start having your child wake up earlier each day from now until school starts so they are ready to go on the first day.
  • Our Back-to-School Night is Tuesday, September 10. More information will be shared soon.

Please note - if your family is not able to attend the Open House or your child cannot attend the New Student Orientation - not to worry! We will have their schedule waiting for them on the first day of school and we will have staff and student ambassadors ready to help throughout the first two weeks of school.

Lastly, we will utilize eNotify to communicate the Back-to-School Information next week, so please be on the lookout for that email soon.

Take Care!

Cindy Conley

Summer READ! Program

Rising 7th and 8th grade students are encouraged to participate in Irving’s Summer READ! Program  throughout the summer break.  Check out the promotional video here! (voice-over version of the video is also available).  From the Irving website, students and parents/guardians can print out a copy of the choice board which lists 24 different reading challenges.  When students complete a square of the choice board, they answer a few questions about what they read on a Google Form (https://bit.ly/WIMSSUMREAD2024).  For each entry that students enter into the form, their name is entered into a raffle for $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards.  Students have the opportunity to enter up to 24 times.  Four gift cards will be rewarded randomly by choosing names from among the participants.  A student may win only one gift card.
